PRIME Performance Straight Out of the Box: Specna Arms SA-PH21 M-416 14.5″ AEG

The Specna Arms SA-PH21 PRIME M-416 14.5″ AEG takes the classic 416 platform and combines its distinctive military styling with a seriously upgraded internal package. Built with a full metal external construction, a 14.5″ barrel and a quad-rail 20mm Picatinny handguard, it offers the handling and presence of a full-size assault rifle while bringing modern electronic control and high-performance internals straight out of the box.

This PRIME model is aimed squarely at players who want a high-performance AEG without immediately reaching for the upgrade parts catalogue. Inside the reinforced AETHER V2 gearbox are CNC 16:1 steel gears, a full steel-tooth piston, CNC aluminium compression components and Specna Arms’ Dark Matter brushless high-speed motor. Controlling everything is the GATE ASTER II Bluetooth ETU, giving you extensive control over trigger sensitivity, pre-cocking, active braking, firing modes and more through the GATE Control Station app.

IMPORTANT BATTERY WARNING – PLEASE READ

USE A 7.4V LiPo BATTERY ONLY.

For this UK-market PRIME configuration, a 7.4V LiPo is the recommended battery voltage. Do not use an 11.1V LiPo battery, as the higher voltage can cause pre-engagement and may result in damage or premature wear to the rifle’s components.

Damage or faults resulting from using an 11.1V LiPo are not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Never leave a LiPo battery charging unattended. Always use an appropriate LiPo charger and charge batteries in a suitable fire-safe area.

  • Deans connection – Lower-resistance electrical connection with the battery compartment housed inside the stock.

The “Pro” Take

The SA-PH21 is one of those AEGs where the specification sheet actually translates into something useful on the field. Rather than simply giving you a basic V2 gearbox and expecting you to start upgrading, Specna Arms has built the PRIME around a collection of performance-focused components from the outset.

The combination of the Dark Matter brushless motor, 16:1 CNC gears and GATE ASTER II is particularly interesting. The motor provides the drive, the gearset provides the mechanical platform and the ASTER II gives you control over how the rifle responds. Trigger sensitivity, pre-cocking, active braking and programmable firing modes can all be configured to suit how you actually play.

Then there is the 416 platform itself. At 14.5″ it has enough barrel and handguard length to feel like a proper assault rifle without becoming unnecessarily unwieldy. The extensive Picatinny rail space also makes it easy to build everything from a classic military setup to a modern skirmish rifle with optics, illumination and other accessories.

UK Spec & Site Performance

The UK-market SA-PH21 is listed at approximately 345fps +/- 10% with 0.20g BBs. Actual output can vary between individual replicas, ammunition and conditions, so always chrono your rifle using the BB weight you intend to play with and check the limits of your chosen site before attending.

Battery choice is particularly important with this PRIME model. Use a 7.4V LiPo with this UK-market configuration. An 11.1V LiPo should not be used, as the higher voltage can cause pre-engagement and potentially place unnecessary stress on the rifle’s electronics and gearbox.

The included 125-round magazines are a sensible starting point. The 416-style magazine well does mean that magazine compatibility can vary, so compatible metal-shelled STANAG-style magazines and Specna Arms S-MAGs are good choices for additional magazines. Some P-MAG and Hexmag-style polymer magazines may not fit correctly.

Friendly FAQ

Is the SA-PH21 a full metal AEG?
Yes. The SA-PH21 features a full metal external construction, with alloy receiver, outer barrel and other external components, a CNC aluminium handguard and steel sling plate. The pistol grip and stock are high-density polymer.

What gearbox does the SA-PH21 use?
It uses a reinforced AETHER V2 gearbox with CNC 16:1 steel gears, 8mm J-CAGE bushings, a reinforced full steel-tooth piston and CNC aluminium compression components.

Does it have a MOSFET?
Yes. This version features the GATE ASTER II Bluetooth ETU, which provides extensive programmable control and can be configured using the GATE Control Station app.

What battery does the SA-PH21 use?
Use a 7.4V LiPo. A 7.4V 1450mAh crane/nunchuck configuration is recommended, with the battery connecting via Deans.

Can I use an 11.1V LiPo?
No. Do not use an 11.1V LiPo with this UK-market configuration. The higher voltage can cause pre-engagement and may result in damage or premature wear. Use a 7.4V LiPo instead.

What magazines does the SA-PH21 use?
The rifle uses M4/AR-15 style AEG magazines, although the 416-style magazine well means compatibility can vary between magazine designs. Compatible metal-shelled STANAG-style magazines and Specna Arms S-MAGs are recommended.

Can I use P-MAGs?
Some P-MAG and Hexmag-style polymer magazines may not fit correctly due to the design of the 416-style magazine well. We recommend checking compatibility before purchasing additional magazines.

Does it have a quick-change spring system?
Yes. The AETHER V2 gearbox incorporates a quick-change spring system, making power adjustment and maintenance considerably easier for a competent technician.

Can I fit a suppressor or tracer unit?
Yes. The outer barrel has a standard 14mm CCW male thread behind the supplied birdcage flash hider, allowing compatible tracer units, suppressors and other muzzle devices to be fitted.

Is the hop-up adjustable?
Yes. The SA-PH21 uses a rotary Magnus hop-up unit, accessible by pulling back the charging handle and locking the mock bolt open.

Does it come with a battery?
No. The rifle includes two magazines, a stubby vertical foregrip and speed loader, but the battery and charger must be purchased separately.
